Bio

Mary is a graduate of McGill University, holding a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy, subsequent to pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at SFU. She has worked extensively in private practice in the Vancouver area, and Calgary, and has a broad base of acute care knowledge from working in a large teaching hospital in Vancouver, which included work in pre- and post –operative Orthopaedics, Spinal Cord Unit, ICU and Neurology.

Mary has a “patients’ needs first” philosophy to treatment. She believes that the return to optimal function relies not only on overcoming the physical limitations of an injury, but that it can take different forms depending on the needs and lifestyle of that individual. She attempts to empower the individual to learn about their body and the healing process and to guide them successfully in the optimization of healing and re-integration to their desired level of physical function. Assessment and treatments are based on a variety of evidence-based models, and incorporate specific exercise prescription with manual/manipulative therapy, traditional Chinese acupuncture and/or Intra-muscular stimulation (IMS), and soft tissue techniques.

Mary holds a post-graduate diploma in Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy, is certified in Medical Acupuncture, as well as, Intra-Muscular Stimulation. She continues to build on her vast knowledge base with continuing education in all areas of professional interest, which include the neck, spine and pelvis, hips and shoulders, pre and post operatively, She enjoys treating patients of all ages, athletes and weekend warriors alike.

Mary has a keen interest in athletics, having provided physiotherapy for SFU Junior Varsity soccer, Varsity football and wrestling teams, Women’s World Cup Fast Pitch tournaments, and the Special Olympics. She personally enjoys participating in a variety of team sports such as dragon boating and volleyball. Personal athletic highlights include the 2014 Penticton Gran Fondo, Scotiabank Half Marathons, Melissa’s Half Marathon in Banff and numerous 10 K races.
